News Highlights  

  • Schedules for Fairfax County Government offices and services for the Christmas holiday, Dec. 24-26, and the New Year's holiday, Jan. 1.
  • Editor's Note: Information on county government closings for the furlough day on Jan. 2 will be provided next week.

County Government

  • Dec. 24 – Closed half-day
  • Dec. 25-26 – Closed
  • Jan. 1 – Closed

Courts

  • Dec. 24-26 – Closed
  • Dec. 31, Jan. 1-2 – Closed 
  • (Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court county offices will be open a half-day on Dec. 24 and a full day on Dec. 31).

Public Schools and School Offices

  • Dec. 24-Jan. 2 – No school for students and teachers
  • Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1 – Twelve-month personnel off

Libraries

  • Dec. 24 – Closes at 1 p.m.
  • Dec. 25-26 – Closed
  • Dec. 31 – Closes at 5 p.m.
  • Jan. 1 – Closed

Fairfax Connector – *

  • Dec. 25 – Sunday Service
  • Dec. 26 – Regular weekday service except routes 380, 595, 597, and VRE EZ-Bus
  • Jan. 1   Sunday Service

Fastran

  • Dec. 24-26 – Not in service
  • Dec. 31-Jan. 1 –  Not in service

 Park Authority

  • Dec. 24 – Fairfax County Park Authority RECenters close at noon, except for George Washington RECenter, which is closed. Resource Management Division (RMD) sites such as nature centers, historic sites, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed.
  • Dec. 25 – All Park Authority RECenters and RMD sites closed.
  • Dec. 26 – RECenters will operate on their regular schedules. Nature centers open from noon to 5 p.m.; historic sites from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Frying Pan Farm Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Visitor Center open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Country Store closed); Green Spring Gardens from noon to 4:30 p.m. (Historic House closed).
  • Dec. 31 – RECenters close at 4 p.m., except for George Washington RECenter, which will be closed. Nature centers open from noon to 5 p.m.; historic sites from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Frying Pan Farm Park open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Visitor Center open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Country Store closed); Green Spring Gardens open from noon to 4:30 p.m. (Historic House closed).
  • Jan. 1 – RECenters are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for George Washington RECenter, which will be closed. All RMD sites will be closed.

Community, Teen and Senior Centers –**

  • Dec. 24 – Closes at 1 p.m.
  • Dec. 25-26 – Closed
  • Jan. 1 – Closed 

County Trash and Recycling Collection – County residents receiving county collection service for trash and recyclables on Thursdays will not receive service on Thursday, Dec. 25.  Their trash and recyclables will be collected on Friday, Dec. 26.  County customers who receive collection service on Fridays will have their trashcollected as usual on Friday, Dec. 26.  Friday customers will have their recyclables collected on Saturday, Dec. 27.  To ensure collection, residents should have their trash and recyclables to the curb by 6 a.m. on the designated collection day.***

Recycling and Disposal Facilities at I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex

  • Dec. 24 – Closes at 1 p.m. 
  • Dec. 25 –  Closed
  • Dec. 31 – I-66 Transfer Station closes at 2 p.m.
  • Jan. 1 - Closed

* Riders can take Fairfax Connector buses to West Falls Church Metro Station to continue by Metrorail.

** The McLean Community Center closes at 1 p.m. Dec. 24; closed Dec. 25-26. The center is open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27; and closed Jan. 1. Reston Community Center Hunter Woods closes at 2 p.m. Dec. 24; is closed Dec. 25; closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The Lake Ann Center is closed Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

 *** Residents receiving trash and recyclables collection service from private collection companies should contact their service provider directly to learn of any schedule adjustments for the holiday.
