A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m., for a new sidewalk to be built on Quander Road between Beacon Hill Road and Stokes Lane in Alexandria.
The sidewalk will make it easier for students to walk to and from West Potomac High School. They currently walk along Quander Road next to passing traffic.
“This sidewalk will go a long way towards protecting our students who now compete with school buses for space on their way home from school,” said Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerald W. Hyland. “I want to especially thank Congressman Connolly who, as chairman of the Board of Supervisors, was instrumental is making this project a reality.”
Ceremony participants are scheduled to include Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerald W. Hyland, School Board Chairman Daniel G. Storck, U.S. Rep. Gerry E. Connolly and members of the community.
The project includes 500 feet of concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and storm drainage on the west side of Quander Road. Construction is scheduled to begin next month and be completed later this summer.
