The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, at its meeting on Monday, Aug. 3, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will make the following presentations to residents and county staff. Iron Dog Competition Participants
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Fairfax County police
officers and their K-9 partners who participated in the 2009 Virginia
Police Canine Association Iron Dog Competition at Great Meadows, The
Plains, VA. The officers and their dogs took first place in the Overall
Team Event, Narcotic Detection, Packages and Area Search, and Criminal
Apprehension.
Quick Thinking Saves Life
The Board of Supervisors will recognize public safety staff and
lifeguards for their swift action and quick thinking that saved the life
of five year old Anthony Pearson.
National Night Out
The Board of Supervisors will designate Tuesday, Aug. 4, as National Night Out in Fairfax County. The Police
Department is sponsoring National Night Out 2009 to promote the
importance of community partnerships, neighborhood safety and public
awareness of crime prevention programs. Residents are urged to turn on
their porch lights and come outside to join with their neighbors and
local police in a variety of activities.
Kay Tsui
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Kay Tsui for her
accomplishments in cycling. Tsui competed in the USA Cycling Masters Road
National Championships, in Louisville, KY this year. She won all three of
her races ranging from 12 to 25 miles and was Best All-Around Cyclist in
her age group.
Virginia Youth Soccer State Championship Winners
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Fairfax County club
soccer teams for winning the state championship title for their division.
The teams are:
- U12 Boys Premier Red, Vienna Youth Soccer
- U13 Boys 95 Stripes, Team America Soccer Club
- U14 Boys Real Junior, Herndon Youth Soccer
- U15 Girls Burn, Chantilly Soccer Club
- U15 Boys Herndon FC, Herndon Youth Soccer
- U16 Girls Azul, Braddock Road Youth Club
- U16 Boys MPS Hurricanes, McLean youth Soccer
- U17 Boys 91 Elite, Great Falls Youth Soccer
- U18 Girls MPS Freedom, McLean Youth Soccer
- U19 Girls MPS Freedom Elite, McLean Youth Soccer
- U19 Boys MPS McLean FC, McLean Youth Soccer
Chantilly High School Girls Soccer, Lacrosse and Boys Lacrosse
Teams
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Chantilly High School
girls soccer team, girls lacrosse team and boys lacrosse team for their
accomplishments. This season marks the first time that the girls soccer
team and the girls lacrosse team won the Virginia State Championships for
their sports. The boys lacrosse team participated in the state
championship and finished their season 16-3.
Langley High School Boys Lacrosse Team
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Langley High School Boys
Lacrosse Team for winning the northern region and state championships.
This is the first time the school has captured the titles.
Lee District Park RECenter Staff
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Dawn Stoffelen, David
Wyttenbach, Kwami Brown, Dempsey Wilson, Dave Fallert and Leon Plenty for
their professionalism, quick thinking and service to the patrons of the
Lee District Park RECenter.
