The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) has recognized Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova with its highest honor, the Elizabeth and David Scull Metropolitan Public Service Award. The award is presented annually to an elected official for outstanding service to residents of the metropolitan Washington, D.C., region.
“I am humbled to receive this honor from my regional colleagues,” said Bulova. “Finding new and innovative ways to collaborate as a region will have long-lasting benefits to all of our residents.”
Bulova was recognized for her leadership in guiding the Greater Washington 2050 Coalition ? a group of public officials, business and civic leaders tasked by COG to find ways to improve the quality of life for area residents by fostering stronger regional cooperation and planning. Bulova, who serves as the chief spokesperson for the initiative, spearheaded vigorous outreach to member governments and stakeholders; an extensive public survey; and a forum of future-focused experts. The coalition recently released a draft of its final report, Region Forward.
As a member and past chairman of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, Bulova champions regionalism to address issues concerning the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. She also is a member of the Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee and the past chairman of the Metropolitan Development Policy Committee.
