More than 250 volunteers from the Culmore area, including local businesses, churches and nonprofit organizations will participate in the seventh annual Culmore Cleanup on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants should check in at 9 a.m. at the Woodrow Wilson Library, 6101 Knollwood Drive, Falls Church, to receive trash bags, a T-shirt and gloves. Coffee and light refreshments will be offered.

Volunteers will clean up trash and other debris from Route 7 and Patrick Henry Drive to Beachway Drive/Blair Road to Columbia Pike.  From Columbia Pike the crews will continue to Route 7 and back to Patrick Henry Drive. All streets between these points will be included in the cleanup.

Following the cleanup, participants will return to the Woodrow Wilson Library for cookies and a chance to win a door prize from contributors.  The library also will host a wildlife presentation by staff from the Hidden Oaks Nature Center, information from the Fairfax County Health Department Division of Environmental Health and the Baileys Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.

The cleanup is organized by the Fairfax County Health Department Division of Environmental Health, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, the Mason District Supervisor’s Office and the Woodrow Wilson Library along with several community organizations. Sponsors include the Rotary Club of Baileys Crossroads, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center and John Marshall Bank.

Volunteers are asked to contact the Woodrow Wilson Library at 703-820-8774, ext. 4, (TTY 711) to pre-register teams of volunteers.
