Sixteen entries have been selected to receive the 25th annual Fairfax County Exceptional
Design Award. The recipients were selected by the design jury for
the Fairfax County Exceptional Design Awards Program based on four
criteria:
- Exemplifies a superior work of architecture.
- Incorporates total site design and landscaping.
- The context of the work in relationship to its surroundings.
- Applies energy and water conservation, and other green building practices.
The award recipients are:

Paul Lewis, Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce; Jeni Hornback Virginia Chapter, American Planning Association; Robert E. Beach, History Commission; Scott Matties, American Institute of Architects, Northern Virginia Chapter; John Burns, Architectural Review Board, chairman (design jury) chair.
The program is sponsored by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and administered by the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning, in cooperation with the county’s Architectural Review Board and the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
