A special election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3 to elect the new Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chairman. The seat was vacated by Gerald E. Connolly, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. The voter registration deadline is 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21; mail-in registration applications must be postmarked on or before Jan. 21. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 3.
Absentee voting is open weekdays, beginning today, through Jan. 30 (except Jan. 19), and on the Saturdays of Jan. 10 and Jan. 31. Residents can vote in-person from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, Suite 323, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.
Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the Office of Elections by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, or they may be completed online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/eb/absentee.htm. The forms must be printed and either mailed or faxed to the Office of Elections; they cannot be submitted electronically.
The candidates on the ballot are current Board of Supervisors members Sharon Bulova and Pat Herrity and independent candidates Carey C. Campbell and Christopher F. DeCarlo.
