The Fairfax County Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) Collaborative and Verizon Wireless are sponsoring a free screening of "Sin by Silence"? a new documentary about the tragedy of domestic violence. The screening is Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7 to 9 p.m., Cinema Arts Theatre, 9650 Main Street, Fairfax. A discussion will follow the film screening.
“Sin by Silence” highlights Convicted Women Against Abuse (CWAA), the first inmate initiated and led group in the United States prison system to help abused women speak out and receive support. During the past two decades, CWAA has changed laws for battered women and raised awareness for those on the outside.
Domestic violence affects nearly one-third of all women in the U.S. The Fairfax County DVAM Collaborative brings together Fairfax County Government agencies and nonprofit organizations to raise awareness about this issue in the community.
