At a town meeting on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m., at Walt Whitman Middle School, 2500 Parker’s Lane, Alexandria, Fairfax County will present a project update on flood mitigation for the Huntington community.
At the direction of Fairfax County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) performed a study of the Cameron Run floodplain in relation to the June 25-26, 2006, flooding in the Huntington community. USACE developed alternatives to mitigate the flooding. The county and the community selected the final alternative and the USACE completed the 65 percent design.
At this meeting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, will present the 65 percent design of the selected levee alternative and the county will discuss options for moving forward. The 65 percent design report will be posted online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/stormwater/floodreport on May 7.
A Spanish language translator will be present at the meeting.
