Editor’s Note: Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on sisterhood relationship with Songpa-gu, Seoul, Korea and Fairfax County in the Board Conference Room of the Government Center at 9:15 a.m. before the regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meeting. They also will be recognized at the Board of Supervisors meeting where the mayor of Songpa-gu will address the board.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, at its meeting on Monday, July 13, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will make the following presentations to residents and county staff. Brian Hull
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Brian Hull, principal of Colin
Powell Elementary School, for being named Virginia’s National
Distinguished Principal. Hull has served as a principal for 24 years and
has led Colin Powell Elementary School since 2003. He shares his
expertise with the education community by serving as a course instructor
for the New Teacher Mentor Program as well as serving as a mentor for
fellow administrators.
Direct Support Professionals Appreciation Month
The Board of Supervisors will designate September 2009 as Direct Support
Professionals Appreciation Month. These professionals are responsible for
providing hands-on care for Fairfax County residents with disabilities
who require long-term support.
Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation
Services
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Fairfax County Department of
Community and Recreation Services (CRS) for its 50th anniversary. CRS
provides services, programs and activities that strengthen communities,
responds to challenges, and encourage hands-on learning opportunities.
CRS has a long and distinguished history of supporting the county’s most
vulnerable populations by ensuring they have the opportunity to improve
their quality of life and be successful and productive.
South County Secondary School Girls Varsity Softball
Team
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the South County Secondary
School Girls Softball Team for winning the Northern Virginia Regional
championship. This is the first team regional title for South County
Secondary School. The team finished its season with 23 wins and only one
loss.
South Lakes High School Boys Track and Field
Team
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the South Lakes High School Boys
Track and Field Team for winning the Northern Virginia Regional
championship. The team was led by senior Vincent Brown Jr., who was
chosen as Athlete of the Year for the Spring 2009 Fairfax Extra All-Extra
Teams, and selected as a Washington Post First Team All-Met athlete for
Track and Field. The team also placed sixth overall at the Virginia AAA
State Track and Field Championships.
