The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors today appointed M. Gail Ledford, PhD, as director of the Department of Administration for Human Services (DAHS). Ledford, who lives in Fairfax County, will begin her new position on Dec. 21.
Throughout her career within Fairfax County’s human services system, Ledford has worked in a variety of roles, and has created partnerships among local and state government agencies, nonprofit and for-profit vendors, service providers and the community.
Ledford currently serves as deputy director of DAHS. In that position, she facilitates day-to-day operations, management, quality assurance and implementation of new initiatives that support the county’s comprehensive array of human services. She also is responsible for oversight of the business areas that provide budget and financial management, human resources, physical resources, information technology strategic planning and contracts and procurement management for Fairfax County human service agencies.
She sits on the board of directors of SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) of Northern Virginia, is a member of the Healthy Families Virginia Advisory Council and an associate member of the Virginia Association of Local Human Services Officials.
Ledford has a doctorate in public administration and policy from Virginia Tech, a master’s degree in public administration from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in social work from George Mason University. She will receive an annual salary of $139,500.
