Most Recent Rental Housing Information Available

The 2007 Fairfax County Rental Housing Complex Analysis – an inventory of all rental housing complexes with five or more units in the county – is now available. The report provides information on number of rental units, vacancy rates and monthly rental costs. Rental units leased by individual owners are not included in this report.
According to the report:
- There were 62,182 rental complex units in Fairfax County in January 2007; the number of units remained stable between January 2006 and January 2007.
- The January 2007 vacancy rate for all rental complexes was 5.9 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the January 2006 vacancy rate of 6.0 percent.
- The average monthly rent in the county for complexes without subsidies was $1,311 in January 2007. This is 5.1 percent higher than that reported in January 2006, although the average monthly rent of townhouse style units decreased.
- The average monthly rent for units in subsidized rental housing complexes was $1,145 in January 2007.
The report summarizes the number of rental units and vacancy rates for the county as a whole and for supervisory and planning districts. The number of rental units for the towns of Herndon and Vienna are included in their respective county supervisory districts.
