The community is invited to join Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine Hudgins at an Outdoor Lighting Task Force meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at the North County Governmental Center Community Room, 12000 Bowman Towne Drive, Reston.
Representatives from the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) and Reston Association will discuss and review the proposed Dominion Power LED Streetlight Pilot location within the Reston Demonstration Lighting Project Area. Dominion Power's streetlight cost structures also will be reviewed.
In May 2008, the Board of Supervisors voted to increase the maximum number of streetlights in the Reston Demonstration Project to 350 units. The board also voted to work with Dominion Power to evaluate LED streetlight technology and the potential establishment of pilot LED lighting projects in the county, which led to a pilot project at the Virginia Railway Express station in Burke.
Dominion Power has expanded its pilot program to include projects in 10 localities across Virginia. As part of the county's effort to continually improve outdoor lighting quality and energy efficiency, DPWES is working with Dominion Power to include an area within the Reston Demonstration Project as part of the statewide project.
