The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, at its meeting on Tuesday, July 27, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will make the following presentations to residents and county staff. NACo Award Winners
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the following Fairfax County
programs selected for a National Association of Counties (NACo) 2010
Achievement Award: Go Green With Gunston; Early Learning Through Visual
Arts; Digital TV Conversion; Community Budget Dialogues; Administrative
Resource Team; Operation Medicine Cabinet Cleanout; Shape Up; Foreclosure
Prevention Outreach; Public Safety Architecture Modernization; Electronic
Accounts Payable; Youth Survey Issues Fact Sheets; and the Ossian Hall
Park International Performance Series.
Police Department 70th Anniversary
The Board of Supervisors will congratulate the Fairfax County Police
Department for its 70th anniversary and the release of the book,
“History of the Fairfax County Police Department: 1921-1990,” that
chronicles the Police Department, including a development and growth
phase between 1921 and 1940.
National Night Out
The Board of Supervisors will designate Aug. 3 as National Night Out in
Fairfax County. The Fairfax County Police Department sponsors National Night Out to promote the importance of
community-police partnerships, neighborhood safety and public awareness
of crime prevention programs.
Emergency Preparedness Month
The Board of Supervisors will designate September as Emergency Preparedness Month
in Fairfax County. Residents of Fairfax County are encouraged to prepare
themselves and their families for emergencies by organizing an emergency
supply kit; formulating a personal preparedness plan; becoming
knowledgeable about various threats; and becoming involved in preparing
their community.
Americans With Disabilities Act 20th Anniversary
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the 20th anniversary of the
Americans with Disabilities Act. Fairfax County celebrates the progress
made toward ensuring equality and inclusion of people with disabilities
and acknowledges that this work needs to continue.
Langley High School Boys Lacrosse Team
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Langley High School Boys
Lacrosse Team for winning the Virginia State Championship for the second
consecutive year.
Nysmith School Odyssey of the Mind Team
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Nysmith School for the
Gifted Odyssey of the Mind Team for winning the Virginia State
Championship and advancement to the worldwide Odyssey of the Mind
competition at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
Kailash Gupta
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Kailash Gupta for 23 years of
service to Fairfax County — the last nine as director of the Wastewater
Treatment Division at the Noman M. Cole Jr. Pollution Control Plant.
