“Breaking Down Barriers,” a seminar on the updated Americans with Disabilities Act and other employment-related laws affecting persons with disabilities, will be held Monday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. The Fairfax County Office of Human Rights and Equity Programs (OHREP) is hosting the seminar in partnership with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission – Washington Field Office (EEOC) and the ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia.
The seminar is free and will feature:
- An overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008.
- An overview of the new Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act of 2008.
- Information on how to file a complaint and navigate the EEOC and OHREP investigative processes.
- Question and answer session.
Service providers, nonprofit organizations, employers, advocacy groups and individuals interested in the rights of persons with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
