Fairfax County Supervisors Pat Herrity (Springfield District) and John C. Cook (Braddock District) are hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Internet Safety, Thursday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. at W.T. Woodson High School, Fairfax. The event is open to parents, educators and other concerned adults; some of the material is not appropriate for children.
There will be presentations from Fairfax County Police Department’s Child Exploitation Unit and Enough Is Enough (EIE) President Donna Rice Hughes. The program will cover the essential technical and non-technical safety basics that parents and other adults in the community need to know to protect children from the online threats of pornography, sexual predators and cyberbullies, as well as how to keep kids safe on social networking sites, gaming and mobile devices.
Segments from EIE’s “Internet Safety 101” focus on true stories from kids, parents, victims and a convicted sex offender. Clinicians, child safety advocates, law enforcement and technology representatives offer advice.
For further information and reasonable ADA accommodations, contact the Springfield District Office, 703-451-8873 (TTY 711).
