The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Christopher A. Leonard as the director of the newly created Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) today. He will assume his new position on July 19.
The transition to the new department is currently underway. Its mission is to engage, connect and collaborate with individuals, organizations, neighborhoods and communities to strategically plan, provide responsive services and build capacity to support community and neighborhood solutions. The newly created regional service delivery model for teen, senior and community center services throughout the county is also being implemented within NCS. The department consolidates the Department of Community and Recreation Services and the Department of Systems Management for Human Services.
Leonard currently serves as acting director for the Department of Community andRecreation Services (CRS). He began his county career as a budget analyst in the Department of Management and Budget and was the deputy director for CRS for six years prior to accepting his current acting capacity designation. Prior to his career with Fairfax County, Leonard was a program coordinator with the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services.
Leonard has a bachelor’s in sport management and a master’s of public administration from West Virginia University. He will receive an annual salary of $130,000.
