Michael Longhi Appointed Auditor of the Board

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Michael Longhi as the auditor of the board today. He will assume his new position on Monday, July 12.
Under the guidance and direction of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the auditor of the board conducts performance reviews of county agency operations and county-funded programs to ascertain that appropriated funds are expended for their intended purposes. The auditor also reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of agencies and programs.
Longhi currently is the deputy treasurer, Accounting and Treasury Management, in the Arlington County Treasurer's Office, a post he has held since 2004. His responsibilities include primary oversight of all Arlington County government and school banking, investment, revenue accounting and bond proceeds management. In 2007, Longhi rewrote Arlington County’s investment policy, which was awarded certification from the Association of Public Treasurers for the United States and Canada.
Previously, Longhi was deputy treasurer, Compliance, in the Arlington County Treasurer’s Office. He also has worked for Prince William County as a treasury manager and financial systems analyst, and at CPC Software Solutions.
He has certifications from the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association, the University of Virginia and the Association of Government Accountants.
Longhi received a master’s in public administration, with a public finance concentration, from George Mason University. He has a bachelor’s in business administration, with a finance concentration, from American University, Washington, D.C. He will receive an annual salary of $125,000.
