Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland will host the 23rd annual Mount Vernon Town Meeting on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School’s Little Theatre, 8515 Old Mount Vernon Road, Alexandria.
“Directed primarily to residents of the Mount Vernon District, the meeting is open to all residents of the county,” said Hyland. “I want to provide a local forum to hear the significant issues involving Mount Vernon, as well as countywide affairs, while creating the opportunity for residents to meet their elected representatives and express their views and concerns.”
Speakers include:
- Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova, who will make remarks on the county's priorities for 2010;
- County Executive Anthony H. Griffin, who will provide an overview of FY 2010 and FY 2011 budgets; and
- Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Dale and Mount Vernon District School Board member Dan Storck, who will discuss successes and challenges in the school system.
The presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
As part of the town meeting, Hyland will guide a virtual bus tour of the Mount Vernon District.
Starting at 7:45 a.m., displays and exhibits will be available in the cafeteria along with beverages and doughnuts before the presentations, which begin at 9 a.m.
