Public Meeting Dec. 15 on Funding Tysons Transportation Improvements
Dec. 7, 2010
Fairfax County will hold a public meeting on Funding Tysons Transportation Improvements on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, Rooms 2/3.
The purpose of the meeting is for the public to learn more about these proposed improvements, their associated costs, and staff’s proposal for sharing those costs between the private and the public sectors.
In June 2010, the Board of Supervisors adopted a new Comprehensive Plan for the redevelopment of Tysons. The plan will transform Tysons into a transit-oriented mixed-use urban center. A major component of this plan is a redesigned transportation system taking advantage of the four new Metrorail stations. This new transportation system will include a vastly improved street network, better pedestrian and bicycle routes, community shuttles, and improved transit systems both within Tysons and connecting Tysons to the surrounding neighborhoods. These improvements are expected to reduce the time, cost and inconvenience of getting to and moving within Tysons.
