New Great Falls Fire Station to Get a Septic System
Nov. 10, 2010
As construction continues on the new Great Falls Fire Station, the county’s engineers will be adding an unexpected feature to this green building—a septic system. This system was desired by the Great Falls community, and its design is already underway.
As a result of their skillful management, public works staff brought this project under budget, allowing the county to buy land for a septic field. In fact, the county purchased the property at 718 Walker Road for $250,000 below asking price.
Originally, a pump-and-haul disposal system was proposed because it was too expensive to buy the property next to the station for a septic field.
The new 4-bay station will include a number of environmentally friendly features, including a partial vegetated roof; low flow or waterless plumbing fixtures to conserve water; and high efficiency heating and cooling equipment.
Located at 9916 Georgetown Pike, the station is expected to be finished next fall. The total cost for the station is $12.1, including the $1 million land acquisition for the septic field.
