2011 Culmore Cleanup Scheduled for April 30

More than 200 volunteers from the Culmore area, including local businesses, churches and nonprofit organizations will participate in the ninth annual Culmore Cleanup on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Contact the Woodrow Wilson Library at 703-820-8774, ext. 4, (TTY 711) to pre-register teams of volunteers. Participants should check in at 9 a.m. at the Woodrow Wilson Library, 6101 Knollwood Drive, Falls Church, to receive trash bags, a T-shirt and gloves. Coffee and light refreshments will be offered.

Volunteers will clean up trash and other debris from Route 7 and Patrick Henry Drive to Beachway Drive/Blair Road to Columbia Pike. From Columbia Pike the crews will continue to Route 7 and back to Patrick Henry Drive. All streets between these points will be included in the cleanup.

Following the cleanup, participants will return to the Woodrow Wilson Library for lunch provided by the German Gourmet, dessert by the City Diner, water and orange juice by the Coca-Cola Company, and other refreshments. The library also will host a wildlife presentation by staff from the Hidden Oaks Nature Center, information from the the Coca-Cola Company, Fairfax County Health Department Division of Environmental Health, the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, and the Bailey’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.

The cleanup is organized by Alternative House, Bailey’s Beautification Alliance, the Fairfax County Health Department's Division of Environmental Health, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, the Mason District Supervisor’s Office, the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads and the Woodrow Wilson Library, along with several community organizations.  Sponsors include Bailey’s Crossroads Auto Body, the City Diner, the Coca-Cola Company, Culmore Realty, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, the Euro-Market Mobil, the German Gourmet, John Marshall Bank, Jerusalem Restaurant, Peking Gourmet, Radley Acura, the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads and Safeway.
