March 28 Town Hall to Address George Mason University's Transportation Plans

March 24, 2011

Braddock District Supervisor John C. Cook will host a town hall meeting on Monday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. on George Mason University’s proposed transportation plans. The meeting will take place at Fairfax Villa Elementary School, 10900 Santa Clara Drive, Fairfax.

Representatives from George Mason University, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation will be available to answer questions.

The university’s plan is to build a roadway that will allow eastbound drivers on Braddock Road to enter George Mason property at the intersection of Braddock Road and Prestwick Drive, skirt the western area of the campus and cross Ox Road (Route 123) by overpass and also to enter the east side of campus via Mason Pond Drive. A future option could connect University Drive in front of the field house, allowing drivers to use the existing traffic signal to facilitate turning onto northbound Route 123, bypassing the intersection of Braddock Road and Route 123.

While funding for this project did not make the final state budget this year, funding options are still being discussed.
