The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Leslie B. Johnson as the county’s zoning administrator. She will assume her new position on Sept. 8.
Johnson currently serves as the assistant zoning administrator. Since 1988,she has worked for the county’s Department of Planning and Zoning, both in the Zoning Evaluation and Zoning Administration Divisions. Before joining the county, she worked for Montgomery County, Md., in their Office of Consumer Affairs.
The zoning administrator plans, directs and coordinates programs for the administration, interpretation and enforcement of the county’s Zoning Ordinance. This includes:
- Overseeing amendments to the ordinance
- Interpreting the ordinance and processing appeals of various zoning decisions
- Reviewing building permits for zoning compliance
- Issuing sign permits, non-residential use permits, home-occupation permits and other zoning permits.
Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech’s College of Architecture and Urban Studies and a master’s degree in urban studies from the University of Maryland. She will receive an annual salary of $139,163.
