Service Disruptions on Online Tax Payment System; Alternate Payment Opportunities
Oct. 5, 2012
5:45 p.m. Update: Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova announced a one-day waiver of late fees for Personal Property (car) Tax payments received before midnight tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 6, and mailed payments postmarked by Oct. 6. This includes all payment options, with the exception of in-person payments at the Government Center, which will be closed.
An additional credit card payment option has been added. Please note that third-party service fees apply. In addition, cash payments made tonight (before midnight) at Shoppers Food & Pharmacy stores in Fairfax County will be considered on time. Locations include Fairfax, Burke, Centreville, Seven Corners/Falls Church, Herndon, Alexandria, Franconia and Lorton.
Fairfax County is currently experiencing some intermittent problems with the online tax payment system. Taxpayers are encouraged to use one of several alternate ways to pay. Payments made by mail are on time as long as they are postmarked by today, Oct. 5.
In addition, the Government Center is open until 6:30 p.m. today to process payments.
“We apologize for any inconvenience to our taxpayers,” says Director of the Department of Tax Administration Kevin Greenlief. “Thank you for using one of the many payment alternatives to ensure your payment is on time. The county is diligently working to isolate and resolve the system problem.”
