Christopher Pietsch Appointed as Director of the Department of Finance

At its Dec. 3 meeting, the Board of Supervisors appointed Christopher Pietsch as director of the Department of Finance. Pietsch will begin his new position Monday, Dec. 30, and receive an annual salary of $158,000.
Pietsch has served as director of the Internal Audit Office for Fairfax County since 2003 where he ensures comprehensive audit coverage for all county agencies and functions. His work included directing the preparation of audit reports for examinations of financial, operational, compliance, and information system issues to ensure that recommendations were proactive, cost feasible and resulted in improvements to agency operations. He was also responsible for financial analysis of nonprofit and construction entities doing business with the county, and overseeing fraud and ethics investigations.
Pietsch is a certified internal auditor and certified bank auditor and has more than 25 years of experience in finance, accounting and internal audit areas. Prior to joining the county, he held audit positions in banking and with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Pietsch is a member of the Bank Administration Institute; the Government Finance Officers Association; the Institute of Internal Auditors, Northern Virginia Chapter; and the Virginia Local Government Auditors Association, where he has served in numerous roles including treasurer, vice president and president, and currently serves as the audit committee chair.
Pietsch holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from James Madison University. He grew up in Fairfax County and currently lives in Centreville with his two daughters.
