At the Board of Supervisors meeting today, the Fairfax County Employees Advisory Council (EAC) presented the 2013 Don Smith EAC Award and two honorable mentions to county employees. The award recognizes employees who have contributed in an outstanding manner to the well-being of fellow employees.
2013 Don Smith Award:
-
Dominic Runfola, Fire and Rescue Department,
was chosen for the many off-duty hours he spends helping fellow
employees and their families in need. His generous acts of service
include donating leave, preparing meals, splitting firewood and holding
fundraisers to help with medical costs. Runfola would often assist with
child care so parents could tend to the needs of other family
members.
Honorable Mentions:
- Amy Gaisor, Sheriff's Office, has a son who was diagnosed with cancer in 2007; he is now in remission. She uses her experience to help other employees cope with the disease by mentoring them through the process and making hospital visits. She and her son often care for employees' property while they are in the hospital.
- Mark Kidd, Police Department, has been on the Fairfax County Police Association board since 2001 and vice president since 2002. He is responsible for maintaining the facility complex and also puts in countless off-duty hours coordinating, leading or participating in many events. His efforts have impacted the lives of hundreds of officers, retirees and their families.
The Don Smith EAC Award was established by the Employees Advisory Council in 1991 to honor Donald D. Smith, a longtime county employee who served on the EAC for 17 years, before his retirement in 1990.
