Second Public Dialogue to Update Tysons Land Use Plan on Dec. 4, 2013

November 22, 2013

News Highlights

  • As a result of feedback, the proposed plan amendment for Tysons will be brought forward to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors as a single unit, rather than in three stages as originally proposed.
  • Staff will discuss revisions to the Phase 1 draft at the Dec. 4 dialogue.
  • The county expects to hold a public hearing on the complete draft amendment to the Tysons land use plan in late 2014.

Fairfax County will hold a second public dialogue session on the proposed updates to the Tysons land use plan on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. The event will be at the Freedom Hill Elementary School cafeteria, 1945 Lord Fairfax Rd, Vienna.

County staff will discuss revisions to the Phase 1 draft resulting from initial feedback from both the public and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Staff also will listen to comments on the proposals and answer questions.

For those who can’t attend, comments also can be submitted by email. Meeting materials will be posted on the Tysons Plan Amendment Web page.

As a result of feedback, the plan amendment will now be brought forward to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors as a single unit, rather than in three stages as originally proposed.

However, draft changes to the Tysons Plan will be presented to the community and Planning Commission in three phases covering specific topics, and staff will seek public input on each phase.  The complete plan amendment, representing changes presented in all three phases, will be advertised for public hearing at the conclusion of Phase 3.

Phase 1 of the amendment process covers implementation, urban design and land use, including the plan’s initial development level for office uses.  Phase 2 will cover transportation.  Phase 3 will focus on parks, public facilities and other updates that are determined to be needed during the amendment process.  Public input sessions for Phases 2 and 3 will be held in the spring and fall of 2014, respectively.  At the conclusion of Phase 3, a complete draft plan amendment will be advertised for public hearing. This is expected be in late 2014.
