Special Election in Virginia 33rd Senate District is Jan. 21

A special election is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21 to fill the seat of Virginia State Senator Mark Herring, who was elected attorney general and is resigning from the State Senate effective Jan. 11. This election will take place only in the precincts within the 33rd State Senate District, which includes parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties. The polls will be open on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sample ballot (PDF) and Voter ID requirements (PDF)
There are 10 Fairfax County precincts participating in the special election, including:

- Herndon #1
- Herndon #2
- Herndon #3
Important deadlines for the Jan. 21 Special Election:
- Voter registration deadline - Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m.
- Absentee ballot application deadline - Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m.
- Final day for in-person absentee voting - Saturday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m.
- Absentee ballot return deadline - Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
