Using Credit Cards to Pay Your Fairfax County Taxes
July 29, 2014
To make it easier to pay your county taxes, you can pay by phone or online using any major credit card. The Department of Tax Administration is mailing Personal Property (car) tax bills this summer. The deadline to pay your car tax is Monday, Oct. 6.
To pay by phone using any major credit card call 703-222-6740, (TTY 711). A 2.5 percent service fee is charged by a third-party processor (as allowed by state law), and will be shown as a separate transaction on your monthly credit card statement. You will need information included on your bill to complete the transaction. If you do not have your bill, you will need your DMV Customer Number and the last 4 digits of the vehicle’s VIN.
To pay online using any major credit card, go to www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta. The 2.5 percent service fee also applies to online payments and you will need information included on your bill to complete the transaction.
- Please note that if paying online using a Discover Card, a 2.5 percent service fee applies, which is the same as the other credit card companies. The graduated fee no longer applies.
You may also pay by phone or online using a debit card. If using a VISA Debit Card, the service fee is $3.95. If using a MasterCard Debit Card, there is a 2.5 percent service fee.
For more information and additional convenient ways to pay, go online to www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta. You may also call DTA at 703-222-8234 (TTY 711) for information. However, please note this is not the number to call to pay using your credit card. The number for credit card payments is 703-222-6740, (TTY 711).
