American Institute of Architects Recognizes Fairfax County's Exceptional Design Awards Program

Nov. 1, 2016

Fairfax County received the American Institute of Architects Northern Virginia Chapter Award for the Exceptional Design Awards Program.

“Fairfax County truly deserves AIA Northern Virginia’s Chapter Award,” said Sean Reilly, the AIA’s Northern Virginia Honors Committee Chairman. “The county has shown an unwavering dedication to celebrating design excellence with its Exceptional Design Awards Program over the past 32 years. This exceptional program has elevated the public’s awareness of the role of architects in shaping our communities and furthered the idea that design excellence leads to exceptional communities and environments for people.”

The award was presented on Oct. 18, 2016, at the AIA’s annual chapter meeting and honors celebration.

The award recognizes an individual or organization that has, through their professional activities and body of work, significantly inspired or influenced the architecture profession in Northern Virginia over a sustained period of time.

Fairfax County’s Exceptional Design Awards recognize achievement in the total design of a building and its site. The 2016 awards were presented at the Oct. 18, 2016 Board of Supervisors meeting.
