Friday, Jan. 14: The Smell of the Greasepaint...

Join the McLean Community Players for a performance of "The Drowsy Chaperone" and find yourself immersed in the glamorous, hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day, complete with thrills and surprises that take both the cast and the audience soaring. 8 p.m. (Friday and Saturday, Sunday matinee at 3 p.m.) through Jan. 29. Saturday, Jan. 15: Flying Dragons

Ever wonder how dragonflies can hover, dip and dive through the air at 40 miles per hour? How many types live in Northern Virginia? What they eat, who eats them and their courtship rituals? The answers are surprising — even bizarre! Park Manager Kevin Munroe will use images he has taken in Fairfax County and end with a discussion about creating the perfect dragonfly pond on your own property. $6/person. 4 to 5:30 p.m. Huntley Meadows Visitors Center.  Sunday, Jan. 16: Celebrate MLK Day

Don't miss the MLK "Blues & BBQ" Dinner Celebration, featuring Curtis Blues, a preservationist of acoustic Delta Blues of the 1920s and 1930s. Blues' performance is at once highly entertaining and a fascinating historical journey through this deeply American musical genre. Blues plays every instrument from the steel resonator guitar, to the one-string Diddly Bo (not to be confused with Bo Diddly). BBQ dinner catered by The Tender Rib of Temple Hills, MD. 5 to 7 p.m. $5/adults, $3/ages 10 and under. McLean Community Center. Register online. Call 703-790-0123.

  • Barred Owls Campfire: Enjoy an evening hike and campfire to learn about owls and meet our resident barred owl. Then return to a warm campfire to roast marshmallows.   • Get Fit Challenge: If one of your New Year's resolutions is to get back in shape, then the Get Fit Challenge will help you realize that goal. Participate in as many or as few activities as you like. The full Get Fit Challenge starts at 8:30 a.m. with a looped trail run (rain or shine). Find out how many loops around the property you can complete in 50 minutes. Other activities include an extreme step challenge and sample classes in yoga, spin, zumba and more. 8:30 a.m. $5/person.
