Friday, Feb. 4: Signs of Spring

 Saturday, Feb. 5: A Girl's Best Friend

Enjoy a juried showing of quality, handmade jewelry collections and designs by jewelers from around the region at the Fourth Annual McLean Jewelry Showcase. Many jewelers will take custom orders. Fresh food will be available for purchase from Sweet Leaf of McLean. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. McLean Community Center. $3/person.

  • Tasting Party - Salt: Sample the basic and exotic gourmet varieties of salt. Hear about salt history and health, measuring and cooking guidelines and how to pair salts with specific foods.  Sunday, Feb. 6: My Funny Valentine

See a display of old-fashioned Valentine cards dating to the 1940s at the My Funny Valentine event. Sentiments sweet or silly will inspire you to create an antique-style card for your own Valentine.   • The Witch Hazel Family: Join Scott Arboretum curator Andrew Bunting for an in-depth look at Hamamelidaceae, the witch hazel family. Through classroom discussion and exploration, get a close look at this diverse and beautiful family. Participants receive fact sheets on each plant covered in the class. Take time afterward to look for witch hazels in the Green Spring collection. 1:30 to 3 p.m. Green Spring Gardens. $10/person. Register online or call 703-222-4664.
