 Saturday, Feb. 15: Positively Presidential

Preamble Scramble and Political Trivia: Celebrate Presidents Day weekend by rediscovering the Declaration of Independence and learning early American presidential and political trivia. Play fun games such as Preamble Scramble. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sully Historic Site (Sunday also). $7/adult, $6/student and $5/senior or child (includes house tour). Pay at the site. Painting Lucky Animals: Celebrate Chinese New Year with Chinese brush painting. After a beginner's lesson, paint a lucky animal of the Chinese zodiac. Then meet live "lucky" animals and enjoy a story about this tradition. From 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Hidden Oaks Nature Center. Ages 7 and up. All materials provided in the $8/person fee. Register online. Evening Walk: Join a naturalist to hike the trails after dark, listening for owls and frogs and watching for beaver activity. From 5 to 7 p.m. at Huntley Meadows Park. Ages 18 and up. $6/person. Register online. For information call 703-768-2525.

 Sunday, Feb. 16: Bird's-Eye View

Homemade Bird Feeders: Bring your empty milk jugs and/or two-liter soda bottles to make bird feeders. We will discuss tips for feeding birds and learn to identify common birds that visit home bird feeders. Bring binoculars. From 10 to 11 a.m. at E.C. Lawrence Park. Lecture on African-American Dress: Learn about African-American dress from 1790-1840 at this lecture by speaker Ann Buermann Wass, history/museum specialist at the Riversdale House Museum in Riverdale Park, Md. Sponsored by the Sully Foundation. From 3 to 4 p.m. at Sully Historic Site. Light refreshments provided. Free admission. To make a reservation call 703-437-1794.

Digital Garden Photography: Find out how to use your eyes, mind and camera to capture moments in the landscape. Robert Lyons, professor and program director at the University of Delaware and Longwood Gardens, demonstrates the impact of light, elements of composition and the development of personal style. From 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Green Spring Gardens. Program is suitable for casual photographers looking to improve image quality. Ages 18 and up. $10/person. Register online. Hands-on History: Drop off your children (ages 5 to 11) and let them travel back in time with a costumed interpreter to explore the lives of 19th-century children through various activities including games, penmanship, washing clothes and making a food item such as butter, ice cream, cheese or applesauce.
