Friday, Feb. 18: Moon Shine
Join a naturalist at Meadowlark Gardens for a special
Moonlight Garden Walk. Keep your eyes and ears open
to search the gardens for local nocturnal wildlife. After the
walk, enjoy a warm fire in the visitor center. Bring good
walking shoes and plenty of extra warm layers. Meet in the
Meadowlark visitor center. Program is appropriate for adults
and families with children ages 6 and up. Free. For more

19: Jumpin' Jazz
A hot time awaits in Reston Saturday night, when
The Clayton Brothers Quintet brings
its cool jazz to town. The Clayton Brothers Quintet embodies
the shared musical vision of acclaimed brothers John and Jeff
Clayton, bass and saxophone/flute masters, respectively.
Formed 30 years ago and maintaining a vibrant presence ever
since, The Clayton Brothers Quintet is revered for both its
recordings and live performances. 8 p.m. The
CenterStage at Reston Community Center. $30/person

the original outbuildings and the representative slave
cabin at Sully Historic Site. Discover cooking methods used
to prepare foods for the African American slave community.
During this program, visitors can peek at the loft,
normally closed to the public. 1 to 3 p.m. Sully Historic

Winter Hike- Wonderful Wetland Fowl: Hike the
boardwalk at Huntley
Meadows Park to the observation tower from 2 to 4
p.m., looking for green-winged teals, pintails, swamp
sparrows and winter wrens. With luck, we'll spot a bald
eagle! Hikers must be at least nine years old, and
children must be accompanied by an adult. $6/person.

Sunday, Feb. 20: Hidden Treasures
Where are the Smithsonian Gardens? Much like the answer to
the question “Where is the Smithsonian?” heard from so many
tourists, the gardens are everywhere on the National Mall.
Cindy Brown, Smithsonian gardens, education and collections
manager, takes you on a treasure hunt through this tapestry
of gardens and its collections. 1:30 p.m. Green Spring
