 Friday, March 21: Nature at Night

Campfire Night Hike: Not all predators are sleeping. Enjoy a night hike to learn about nocturnal hunters. Listen to taped calls of owls and coyotes and catch a glimpse of them in the forest. End the evening with hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows around the campfire. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at E.C. Lawrence Park. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. $8/person. Campfire Friday – Spring Changes: Welcome the beginning of spring with an evening campfire for the whole family. Join naturalists to explore the park for signs of spring. Program concludes with a campfire and s'mores. From 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hidden Pond Nature Center. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. $7/person. Register online.  Saturday, March 22: A Walk in the Woods

Family Woodcock Walk: Come for an evening walk through the woods. Listen for the call of the male woodcock and hopefully see his amazing courtship display and flight. Bring a flashlight. Workshop – Watercolor on Canvas: Come paint on two stretched canvases using traditional watercolor paints and brushes. Forget all that you know about painting on paper – this is a whole new experience. Some watercolor experience is helpful, but not necessary. A morning demonstration followed by an afternoon of painting and critique session. From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Green Spring Gardens. Bring a bag lunch. Supply list sent prior to class. Theater Unspeakable’s “Superman 2050”: Epic story, pocket proportions. Seven actors share one tiny platform, just 3 by 7 feet of space, and upon it an original Superman tale unfolds. Set in a fictional 2050 Metropolis with a remarkable resemblance to Chicago, the show’s imaginative, resourceful cast members use only their bodies and voices to create every prop, scene, sound effect and character in a battle between Superman and Lex Luthor for the future of the Midwest’s beloved high-speed rail network.  Sunday, March 23: Birds, Butterflies and Blossoms

Wagon Ride: Take a wagon ride scavenger hunt through the meadow to search for birds and butterflies and meet a friendly animal up close. From noon to 1 p.m. at Riverbend Park. $5/person. Register online. For information call 703-759-9018.
