Saturday, May 14: Farm Baaaabies!

Watch sheep shearing and antique farm equipment demonstrations during Spring Farm Day! Participate in hands-on farm activities such as cow and goat milking. Enjoy crafts, games, puppet shows and meet baby farm animals. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park. $5/person. For information call 703-437-9101.

Peter and the Wolf: An adaptation of the traditional Russian folktale set to music by Sergei Prokofiev. A charming introduction to the world of music and musical instruments, this is an enchanting tale about the adventure of growing up. Danger becomes reality and creative innovation becomes essential as young Peter meets the challenge of survival in the outside world. Ages 5+. 2 p.m. McLean Community Center's Alden Theatre.  $12 ($8 McLean District residents.) 2nd Saturday Art Walk: Guests can tour seven unique studio buildings, mix and mingle with artists, buy original works of art, experience ever-changing exhibitions and meet featured artists, all while enjoying light refreshment and music.6 to 9 p.m. Workhouse Arts Center.  Free.  For information call 703-495-0001.

Living Wreath:  Join horticulturist Tammy Burke in creating a wreath using annuals on a moss frame. Soil mixes, fertilizers, maintenance requirements and appropriate plants are the topics. Sunday, May 15: Bloomin' Good Advice

Stymied by slugs? Find fertilizing a mystery? Members of the Fairfax County Master Gardeners Association give tips, advice, and strategies at Neighborhood Plant Clinics throughout the week at library locations around the county.  Swing into the Pohick Regional Library on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and get advice from the masters!  For information call 703-324-3100.

Frying Pan Meeting House Homecoming: Song will ring out again at the Frying Pan Spring Meeting House. Celebrate the rich history and diverse culture of this National Historic Register Property. Built in 1791, the simple, white building housed an integrated congregation, sheltered wounded Civil War soldiers and witnessed 200 years of community growth and change. Hear the stories, tour the grounds, and enjoy light refreshments in the church yard, just as the parishioners did at their day-long meetings. All proceeds will benefit cemetery restoration.  1 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park. $5 ($7/non-county residents.) For information call 703-437-9101.

Music Friends Concerts at the Alden: The 2010-11 series highlights young performers destined for classical music greatness. Don't miss this Sunday's performer, Fifi Zhang, the grand prize winner of the Music Teachers National Association competitions in 2008 and 2010. 3 p.m. McLean Community Center's Alden Theatre.  Free.  For information call 703-790-0123.
