 Friday, June 6: Celebrate Fairfax!

Celebrate Fairfax!: Northern Virginia’s largest communitywide celebration takes place June 6-8 at the Fairfax County Government Center. The 25-acre site is magically filled with fascinating sights and sounds of more than 300 exhibitors, food vendors, crafters and interactive activities. Celebrate Fairfax! showcases live concerts, a petting zoo, carnival rides and great festival foods. Nightly fireworks are a highlight.  Saturday, June 7: Lettuce Grow Our Food

Edible Container Gardens: Learn to grow vegetables and edible plants in containers for your deck or patio. Edible garden expert Cindy Brown discusses soil, containers and maintenance and recommends suitable plants for your summer container bounty. Hidden Oaks Treasures Hunt: Ahoy matey! Prepare for an adventure as you follow your treasure map to collect clues along woodland and stream trails Some of the treasures include meeting live woodland creatures; others are fun facts about native plants and rocks and some include feats of daring. The Magic of Hans Christian Andersen: In this award-winning show, two puppeteers combine their talents to present three of Hans Christian Andersen's best loved stories. Puppetry, masks and storytelling fill the stage as the performers manipulate over 20 hand puppets, rod puppets and marionettes while telling "The Ugly Duckling," "Thumbelina" and "The Emperor's New Clothes."  Sunday, June 8: Green Gardening

Watershed-Friendly Garden Tour: Learn about landscaping with natural resources in mind. The tour includes rain gardens, pervious parking areas, native plant landscaping, rain barrels, backyard wildlife habitat, composting and more. Hidden treasures and verdant landscapes wait at homes, community gardens and places of worship in Burke, West Springfield and Fairfax Station. Enjoy each garden at your own pace — visit as many or as few as you like. From 1 to 5 p.m. Free; no registration required. For information call 703-324-1423.

Sunday Soirée Series Dance: Try out your favorite dance moves and enjoy refreshments. The Hot Club of DC celebrates the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli as it was played before and as it has evolved today, more than 100 years later. Their repertoire covers some of the 1920s-1950s American jazz standards, Django's tunes and some of his contemporaries, classic French songs and a few Eastern European traditional tunes.
