 Friday, July 4: Let Freedom Ring!

Lake Fairfax Fourth of July Festivities: Celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, food and family fun! Park grounds open at 7 a.m., so come early for an entire day of special activities including puppet shows from 4 to 6 p.m., a special performance by the renowned U.S. Army Field Band and around 9:15 p.m., the sky above Lake Fairfax Park will explode in patriotic color. Free but there is a charge for food and rides as well as an admission fee for the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole. For information call 703-471-5414.

 Saturday, July 5: Gigantic Fun for Pint-Size People

Arts in the Parks: Discover fun family entertainment from 10 to 11 a.m. at Mason District Park for Mr. Gabe (songs); Burke Lake Park Amphitheater for The grandsons, jr. (songs); E.C. Lawrence Park Amphitheater for Blue Sky Puppet Theater; and Lake Fairfax Park Amphitheater for The Great Zucchini (comedy/magic). Free admission. For information call 703-324-7469.

Third Annual Independence Day Concert and Fireworks: Bring your family and friends to the Workhouse for a day of fun, food, free live music and a spectacular fireworks show. Local musicians FeelFree will perform at 3 p.m. and the Caravan of Thieves’ concert starts at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks at dark at the Workhouse Arts Center. Free admission; $10 parking fee (cash only); food for sale. Come early as it fills fast. For information call 703-584-2900.

Turtle Survey: See turtles close-up, learn how to identify different species and then assist a naturalist in a search for them at the pond. From 4 to 5 p.m. at E.C. Lawrence Park. $5/person. Register online. For information call 703-631-0013.

Japanese Music: The Toho Koto Society of Koto Players is featured from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ossian Hall Park. Free admission. For information call 703-324-7469.
