Friday, August 12: A Little Night Music
Bring a picnic dinner, blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy
musical performances from a variety of genres - big band,
jazz, bluegrass, rock, classical and world music, all part of
the award-winning Summer Entertainment Series. Friday
night features
The United States Navy Band Commodores at
Lake Accotink as part of the Braddock Nights Concert
Series; The
Reunion Music Society Jazz Orchestra at Grist Mill
Park's Mount Vernon Nights series; Orquesta Tropikiimba for
Spotlight By Starlight at the Mason District Amphitheater;
and The Capital Focus Jazz Band for
Braddock Nights at Lake Accotink Park. All performances are
at 7:30 p.m. Summer Entertainment Series includes puppet
shows, drive-in movies, dance performances and just

Farmers Market Fridays: Pick up fresh fruit, produce,
baked goods, meat, eggs, cut flowers and much more at the
Fairfax County Park Authority's farmers markets.
Fridays feature the McLean Farmers
Market, from 8 a.m. to noon, and the Kingstowne
Farmers Market, from 4 to 7 p.m. More information

Saturday, August 13: Stroll
and See
The
2nd Saturday Art Walk at the Workhouse showcases
the diverse work of more than 150 visual artists in a unique
historic venue. Guests can tour seven unique studio
buildings, mix and mingle with artists, buy original works of
art, experience ever-changing exhibitions and meet featured
artists, all while enjoying light refreshment and music. The
social atmosphere of the monthly art walk makes it the
perfect destination for a date night or girl's night out, as
well as for art collectors and art appreciation groups

Moonlight
Hike: Join a park naturalist on a tour of the gardens
after dark during full moon. Learn about the history of the
gardens, the local plant and wildlife and the lore behind the
lunar cycle. Meet in the Visitor Center. Reservations and

Geology Rocks!: We use rocks and minerals
every day; we even use them to brush our teeth! Discover fun
facts about rocks, local earthquakes and the rock cycle.
Handle real fossils and take one home. Take a walk to see
erosion and bedrock. For children ages 6 to 12. 3 to 4:30
p.m. Hidden Oaks Nature Center. $6/person. Register

Sunday, August 14: Rollin' on the River
Discover an island cut-through where the current goes
upstream to the hidden inlet of Beal's Island on a special Kayak Tour.
Start with kayaking basics and soon you will be maneuvering
through the water. No previous experience is required.
One-person and two-person kayaks are available. Download waiver
and bring completed to tour. Participants must be 14 or
above. 9 to 11 a.m. Riverbend Park. $55/person. Register

Civil War Encampment Weekend: Federal and Confederate troops recreate
Civil War daily life as reenactors demonstrate the varied
work of the army. Skirmishes each day include infantry,
artillery and cavalry. Visit an encampment and see how
soldiers lived. Enjoy live music and a fashion show. House
tour includes artifacts rarely on exhibit belonging to the
Haight family, mid-19th century residents at Sully. 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. (10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.) Sully Historic Site.
