Second Saturday Art Walk: Showcasing the diverse work of more than 150 visual artists in a unique historic venue, creating an atmosphere that encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the richness of this creative community. Tour seven unique studio buildings, mix and mingle with artists, buy original works of art, experience ever-changing exhibitions and meet featured artists, all while enjoying light refreshment and music. 6 to 9 p.m. Workhouse Arts Center.  Free.  For information call 703-495-0001.

War of 1812 Muster: Learn musket drill, see the great gun fired, visit the doctor and learn the role of slaves in the War of 1812 as the troops gather to prepare for war against England. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sully Historic Site. $8/adult; $6/seniors and children. For information call 703-437-1794.

KayakerSunday, October 9: With a Paddle

Discover the secrets of the islands on a scenic kayak tour. Start with the basics, and soon you will be maneuvering through the water. No previous experience required. One- and two-person kayaks are available. Download a waiver and bring it completed to the tour. Participants must be age 14 or older. 9 to 11 a.m. Riverbend Park. $55/person. Register online. Young Soloists Recital: Now in its 37th season, this series features professional musicians who have won international recognition for their artistry. The new season also includes four Young Soloists Recitals that will showcase the talents of local school-age musicians.  This week enjoy music for piano, oboe and violin from some of the area's gifted young artists.  3 p.m. McLean Community Center's Alden Theatre.  Free.  For information call 703-790-0123.
