They may look nice, but should you touch them? Come to Burke Lake Park on two days in May to learn about native plants and trees that are safe and helpful and those you would do well to avoid.
On Saturday, May 6, and again on May 20, 2017, you can learn the right weeds and trees to help start a fire, get a drink, find a meal, make a rope, stop an itch or heal a wound. Explore the trails, fields and forests of Burke Lake and see what Mother Nature is growing just for you!
The program for participants age 12 to adult runs from 8:30 to 10:25 a.m. and goes on rain or shine. Bring water and a snack, and wear suitable outdoor clothes and hiking boots or shoes. The cost is $23 per person.
If you can’t make it in May, the program is being offered again on Saturday, June 10.
Burke Lake Park is located at 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA. For more information, call 703-323-6600 or visit Burke Lake Park.
