As Ben Franklin so famously said, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” We cannot do away with either of these, but we can make your life a little easier with free county resources during the upcoming tax season.

Free Income Tax Preparation

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA): If you worked in 2016, and earned less than $54,000, then you may qualify for this free service provided by community volunteers who are designated by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as certified tax preparers. They will ensure that you receive the maximum tax refund and help determine if you are eligible for tax credits. You will need to bring photo ID and other documents.

Families throughout Northern Virginia received over $9.5 million in federal refunds last tax season through this free service.
