Equity Programs

Office of Equity ProgramsFairfax County Equity Programs promotes diversity and recognition of the county as an equal opportunity employer through a continuing working relationship with boards, commissions and other public, private and employee organizations with similar interests.

Equity Programs provides programs and services including training, mediation, investigation, diversity awareness, statistical reporting and community liaison. Equity Programs investigates county employment discrimination complaints as well as citizen allegations of discriminatory treatment by County agencies. Job applicants who are not currently employed by Fairfax County and who have complaints regarding non-selection for employment because of discriminatory reasons may file an applicant right of appeal.

While Equity Programs is county-wide, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the national administrator of complaints that involve discrimination, including discrimination because of race, color, age, religion, national origin, sex or a disability.

In addition, Equity Programs sponsors the Barbara Varon Volunteer Award, which recognizes a county resident whose dedication to improving the community through volunteer service honors the memory of Barbara Varon, former chair of the Fairfax County Electoral Board. Nominations for this year's award are being accepted until June 15, 2007.
