Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended (commonly referred to as the ADA), protects the civil rights of persons with disabilities.  The ADA mandates that all County programs and services are accessible to, and usable by, persons with disabilities.  Fairfax County is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in all county programs, services and activities. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Fairfax County Government employees may request reasonable accommodations by following the process provided by the County. All efforts must be made to respond to employee requests for reasonable accommodations in an efficient and timely manner.

The Office of Human Rights and Equity Programs, Equity Programs Division, ensures countywide compliance with the ADA.  The Equity Programs Division Director is the Countywide ADA Coordinator with day-to-day responsibility for ADA compliance.  When visiting a county facility or county website look for the ADA customer service poster to direct you to the process for requesting reasonable accommodation.

Equity Programs Division has listed several resources and website links to provide additional information about the ADA.  The information is not intended to be legal or medical advice.

Many of the links provided are sites managed outside Fairfax County Government; therefore, we can not make any assurances that the content of these links will be current. Should you discover a link is no longer working, please notify the Equity Programs Division at 703-324—2207 (voice) or 703-222-5494 (TTY).
