Renewing Your Permit

Your Fairfax County family child care permit is valid for one year. You must apply to renew your permit every year, and pay the required fees. Here is a comparison of what is required the first time you apply for a permit, and what is required to renew your permit.

Home Child Care Facility application	Every year
Written child care sick policy	Every year
First aid and CPR certification.	Biennially
Fire safety inspection visit and required documentation	Every year
Home health and safety visit	Every year
Written emergency preparedness plan and supplies	Every year
Attend 12 hours of professional development within your first year	Attend 14 hours of training in 2014 and 16 hours of training in 2015 and each following year
Up-to-date rabies immunizations for dogs, cats and ferrets	Every year
Immunizations records for all children	As immunizations are updated
Child Protective Services check of all residents in the home age 14 or older	Not repeated
Tuberculosis tests for all adults household residents	Every two years
Medication administration training certification (required if you will give prescription or nonprescription medication to children).	Every three years
Criminal history background search of all adults age 18 or older living in the home.	Every five years
Complete the 'Sworn Statement or Affirmation' form of all adults age 18 or older living in the home.	Every five years

You will receive a yellow postcard in the mail three months before your permit expires, reminding you to renew it. Your permit will be renewed when all of the above items are received or completed.
