Chairman Connolly's Prepared Remarks

Sept. 11, 2006
Prepared Remarks by Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly

Chairman Connolly delivers remarks

On Sept. 11, 2001, our nation learned something about heroes. We learned that heroes do not know one nation or faith. We learned that heroes are those who reach into themselves in the time of great danger. Heroes find that spirit of mission that allows them to act when so many stand frozen in fear and time.

Today we join hearts and hands across our nation and around the world as we remember the heroes, the sacrifice and the loss of that fateful day.

The same strength of purpose that allows heroes to act must now be called upon as we strive for peace. History has taught us that peace does not and will not happen unless the peacemaker in each of us steps forward. Faiths and nations united will make a difference in today’s world and the world we leave for our children. Let us pledge to strive for a world of peace.
