Saturday, March 9 Astronomy Festival Enjoy activities including guided stargazing, looking through the telescope, and listening to ancient stories about the constellations ’round the campfire at Riverbend Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Other activities and games will be ongoing throughout the evening. Hot chocolate and snacks will be available for purchase. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more. The cost is $5 per person. For information, call 703-759-9018. Scrapbooking with Family Photos Scrapbooking is a popular way to preserve family memories and individual history. Organize your memorabilia in a personalized album and create a family heirloom. History Symposium: Life on the Home Front Find out what was happening over here while war was being waged over there. Hear about rationing, victory gardens, wartime fashions, and more as distinguished guest speakers present the home front experience. Learn why 1942 is a pivotal year in Green Spring’s history. View wartime newsreels and enjoy 1940s music, exhibits, and a special appearance by Rosie the Riveter. This program is held at Historic Green Spring from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch is included in the $75 fee. Call the site to request a vegetarian option. Register online. Flying Squirrels: Gliding in Tonight Join the naturalist in calling in these amazing night gliders and look for flying squirrels at roosting boxes near the Hidden Oaks Nature Center. Learn how you can encourage flying squirrels to visit your yard. Participants must be at least age four. The cost is $6.
