Garden Goodness: Cooking With Spring Vegetables Parents should consider gardening as an alternative to television and video games. In Green Spring Gardens’ “Let’s Grow” program, children learn how to grow vegetables. Learn how to prepare easy, healthy vegetable recipes that entice finicky critics. Create and eat seasonal treats. Workshop: Living Wreaths Bruce Nash, horticulture instructor at Northern Virginia Community College, creates a unique living wreath using succulents and herbs as inspiration for the class at Green Spring Gardens. Known for their striking forms, unusual colors and easy-care, succulents and herbs are fun plants to combine. Cardboard Boat Orientation and Workshop At this essential workshop from 10 a.m. to noon, you will meet with former Cardboard Boat Regatta contestants and learn tips from the pros that will maximize your chances of entering a race-worthy vessel in this year’s Cardboard Boat Regatta at Lake Accotink Park. Learn what materials are allowed and not allowed. An orientation to the regatta and what contestants should expect will also be provided. Walk with a Naturalist to the Cross County Trail Hike woodland trails around Hidden Oaks Nature Center from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and traverse the stream through the six-foot culvert under the Beltway to reach the Cross County Trail.
