Habitat Restoration

Join our Invasive Management Area (IMA) Volunteer Site Leader for a tree preservation workday at Accotink Creek from 10 a.m. to noon. Bird Watching 101

If you’re 12 or older and interested in learning how to tell birds apart, then this introductory class at the Riverbend Visitor Center from 8 to 10 a.m. is for you. This walk from 7 to 9:30 a.m. is intended for experienced, adult birders. Visit parts of Huntley Meadows Park known for warblers and other neo-tropical songbirds. Dress for off-trail hiking. Sheep and Wool Day

Watch sheep shearing, wool spinning and other wool demonstrations at Frying Pan Farm Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participate in hands-on farm activities and get an up-close introduction to the lambs. The cost is $3 per person. Call 703-437-9101.

Paint a Pot for MOM

Can You Canoe?

Beginner canoeists, ages eight and older, will learn the basic mechanics of canoeing with an emphasis on safety and enjoyment at Lake Accotink Park from 1 to 3 p.m. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pink Lady’s Slipper Walk

Join a Hidden Oaks Nature Center naturalist for a leisurely stroll to see a natural display of wild orchids and other wildflowers at Roundtree Park from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Meet by the paved trail next to the parking lot. Green Spring Garden Markets

Local growers will provide you with shrubs, native plants and wildflowers, ornamental grasses and unusual perennials and annuals from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friends of Green Spring (FROGS) receive 10% off in plant shop.
